The Invisible Ring

"The witches in my family have been using it for generations," Grizelle said. She gestured toward the Ring of Obedience lying on the table. "It's ten times more powerful than that little toy." Then she paused. "Would you like a further demonstration?"

The story:
Jared is a Red-Jeweled Warlord. But he is also a pleasure slave who has killed a Queen. He is certain he'll end up in the salt mines of Pruul, until he is bought by the Gray Lady. A Grey-Jeweled Queen who was known as being even worse than the salt mines, worse than Dorothea SaDiablo.

And now he must journey with his new Queen to her Territory Dena Nehele, from which no slave has ever returned, with a ring more binding than the Ring of Obedience.

Thoughts about the book:
The more I read of Anne Bishop, the more fascinated I become by her world. In some ways, this book is very predictable, and her characters at times seem a little shallow. There are times when I have a problem telling her characters apart, especially the Queens, but given the nature of those Queens, that might very well be intentional.

She has managed to create an original setting, which becomes more and more rare within the fantasy genre.
