Mirage

She was silent for a few moments, then abruptly and harshly she said, `Very well; if you must. Nine years ago, the tide flowed twice in one night without ebbing. It receded, eventually, but the sand it brought did not. You are walking on the tomb of more than half of Haven and its inhabitants.'

The story:
Nine years ago was a Dead Night, a terrible conjunction which killed a great number of Haven's citizens, and split the surviors into two groups; one living above the sea, and one beneath it.

Into this conflict, Simorh has created a being, who shall stand between Haven and its destruction when the new Dead Night occurs.

They call him Kyre, and he is created to fullfill an old prophecy; that the old Sun-Hound shall come again to protect his city when the need is greatest. But Simorh knows that the new Kyre is of her own creation, and not the old prince.

Thoughts about the book:
This is a sweet story about two people who once were one, and who are now mortal enemies, and about love and power.

Louise Cooper seems fond of making the humans own flaws their worst enemies, and this book is no exception.

One of the things I value about Cooper, is that most of the problems her characters face, are problems created by humans themselves, or by a combination of human flaws and outside influences.
