Masanees brought Saluez back to the hive and her story stopped. Time went by, yes, but Saluez did not care much about that. She did not hunger or thirst. The women around her forced her to eat and drink. Her prayers to Weaving Woman had not been answered. Her shuttle had not carried light. Her pattern was dark, only dark, and no one could see its end. There was no story of Saluez.
The story:
Something, unknown aliens, wipe out whole colonies of humans without leaving traces, and the colonists have no time to call for help.
On Dinadh, young Saluez faces what countless of women before her have faced; the judgement of the Kachis.
And a young woman, Snark, whose only task in life is to serve, will find that her life will change, when she is sent with others of her kind, to find out what wiped out the colonies.
Thoughts about the book:
Like most of Sheri Tepper's books, this one discusses something about human nature. Here, it is the humans' way of seeing our world. That everything is here to serve us, and every resource is for us to spend.
The worlds of the Alliance are often cold and without other life than the humans and that which they need to live. People have never seen a live animal, nor trees and flowers.
I'd like to put some of her books on the list of my favourite books, but I have a hard time choosing the right one.
