The Waterborn

"Who decides?"
"Everybody," Qey replied. "The River".
And that was that. If the River said, it was.

The story:
Hezhi is a Royal Princess. When her friend and cousin D'en is taken away, she vows to find him. And so her search begins...

Perkar is a young boy, born and raised among the cattle people. His greatest love in live is the Stream Godess, and being young and recently admitted among the ranks of the adults, he swears that he will kill the God that eats her.

As the two travels on their quests, their fates become more and more entwined.

Thoughts about the book:
The anthropologist can be clearly seen in this book. Keys has created cultures of warriors, and religions with gods and spirits.

The native American inspiration is obvious, and the story is woven together to a believable story about not only two young people, but also about different cultures and the point where they meet.
